Instructor in Training

Ages 14-15  |  SKIER & SNOWBOARDER  |   BEAR DEN LEARNING CENTER

The IIT program, which operates from Bear Den Learning Center at Whiteface, is for those individuals ages 14-15 years old that are interested in learning to be a ski or snowboard instructor. In return for their help with the children’s ski or snowboard group lessons, the program offers participants a SKI3 Seasons Pass and the opportunity to improve their own personal skiing and riding skills while learning the technical applications of teaching the sport.

Each program participant volunteers 18-25 days over the season. Their duties include helping 3-12 year-old students, the 2- to 4-hour lessons out on the hill—riding the chairlifts, keeping the groups together and supporting the instructor with the lesson.

Over the course of the season, IIT participants volunteer between 50-180 hours of their time depending on their commitment. The IIT is a vital part of the Snowsports Program at Whiteface! Many of the participants in the IIT become instructors when they turn 16 years old.
