Are you a newcomer to the slopes?  The Whiteface Snowsports School offers group lessons for ages 4 and up to help you reach your skiing and riding goals. Whiteface Snowsports School is a nationally recognized PSIA-AASI Member School. We have certified instructors offering higher performance and higher guest satisfaction.

Our instructors are industry experts, passionate about what they do, and committed to developing your skills, building your confidence and challenging you with new terrain, all while having fun and at a comfortable pace.

Cub Camp (ages 4-6)

LEVELS 1-4

Nothing says winter like igniting a passion for Snowsports in the next generation. Let our professional instructors guide your child through progression based learning in a fun setting while gaining a lifelong affection for mountain sports. We focus on developing fundamentals to improve balance and movement in a safe, inclusive environment that encourages kids to embrace the mountain confidently. Reservations and lift tickets are required for all group lessons.

Cub Camp is offered daily for children 4-6 years old of all beginner to novice+ levels (1-4). Lessons run from 9:00 am – 11:00 am Non-Holiday; and 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Holiday (lunch not included, snack provided during holidays only) at Bear Den Learning Center.

Children are grouped by ability. All participants must be able to self-toilet, self-dress, no diapers or pull-ups. Rentals are not included with lessons. Please plan to arrive at the Bear Den Learning Center at least 1-1.5 hours before your lesson begins to ensure you have enough time for tickets and rentals.

HELMET POLICY | CHILDREN AGES 17 AND UNDER PARTICIPATING IN WHITEFACE SNOWSPORTS SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR HELMETS. ALL RENTAL PACKAGES INCLUDE HELMETS. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON HELMET SAFETY VISIT LIDS ON KIDS.

Junior Adventure (ages 7-12)

SKI & SNOWBOARD | LEVELS 1-4

The earlier kids start skiing and snowboarding, the better. At Whiteface, Junior Adventure participants will learn in a fun setting and gain a lifelong affection for mountain sports, with a focus on developing fundamentals and improving in a non-competitive environment. Children will be grouped according to ability. Reservations and lift tickets are required for all group lessons.

Junior Adventure is offered daily for children 7-12 years old of all beginner to novice+ levels (1-4). Lessons run from 9:00 am – 11:00 am Non-Holiday; and 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Holiday (lunch not included, snack provided during holidays only) at Bear Den Learning Center.

Lessons levels 1-3 include a beginner lift ticket. The Beginner lift ticket is only valid at the Cub & Coyote Carpets and the Falcon Flyer (does not include access to any other lifts). Level 4 lessons includes a full mountain lift ticket, with access to all open lifts and terrain.

Adult (ages 13+)

LEVELS 1-4

Bear Den Learning Center has some of the best learning terrain in the East for first-time skiers and riders! Our professional instructors will guide you through your first experiences skiing and snowboarding, making sure that you are having fun while also improving your skills. Group lessons run once daily from 9am-11am and are for beginner to novice+ levels 1-4 only. Reservations and lift tickets are required for all group lessons.

Please plan to arrive at Whiteface at least 1 hour (weekdays) or 1.5 hours (weekends) before your lesson begins to ensure you have enough time for tickets and rentals.

2 HOUR LEARN TO SKI/RIDE PACKAGE | LEVEL 1-3

Beginner lift ticket, two hour group lesson, and rental package. Levels 1-3.

Beginner lift ticket is only valid at the Cub & Coyote Carpets and the Falcon Flyer (does not include access to any other lifts)

2 HOUR LEARN TO SKI/RIDE PACKAGE | LEVEL 4

Full mountain lift ticket, two hour group lesson, and rental package. Level 4.

Lessons are non-refundable if canceled within 72 hours of the program start date. Reservations canceled more than 72 hours before the start date will be refunded minus a 15% cancellation fee, or you may chose to receivethe full value of your lesson credited towards the same program on another day.

Know Before You Go

Things to keep in mind
  • Drop off/pick up for all lessons is at the Bear Den Lodge.
  • Please plan to arrive at Whiteface at least 1 hour (weekdays) or 1.5 hours (weekends) before your lesson begins to ensure you have enough time to park, pick up your tickets and get fitted and changed into your rentals.
  • Lessons leave promptly at the start time, if you are late, you will forfeit your lesson.  Please arrive out on snow, with boots and gear on ready for you lesson 15 min prior to lesson start time.
  • Our Snow Sports School will review lesson data for completion of 1 risk waiver to participate.
  • If the student is unable to complete the full lesson, the parent must come to pick them up in a reasonable amount of time (15 min).
  • The student must be picked up within 10 minutes of lesson ending time; failure to do so risks attendance in future lessons.
  • Reservations are required for all group and private lessons.
  • Reservations are subject to availability on a first purchase basis. To guarantee availability, please pre-purchase your lessons and lesson packages in advance.
Snowsports Level Breakdown

Group Lessons are available for levels 1-4, not sure where you fall? Check out the descriptions below to see which best fits your current ability level.

  • Level 1– I have never skied
  • Level 2 – I can slide, change direction and come to a stop on the easiest green terrain
  • Level 3- I can link turns together and my turns are usually all the same size on most green terrain
  • Level 4- I am linking turns together smoothly and staying in control on all green terrain and some easy blue terrain
