Bear Den Learning Center

Bear Den Learning Center is a separate base area at Whiteface built just for beginners, families, and anyone new to skiing or riding. It sits just past the Main Base Lodge (turn right after the bridge by the Main Base Lodge) and has its own lodge, lifts, trails, and parking, so it feels calmer and easier than the main side. Bear Den has two free parking lots, plus EV charging stations, and the free shuttle connects it to the rest of the mountain’s lots. The Bear Den Lodge is home base for the day. It has the Whiteface Snowsports School, ski and snowboard rentals, Growler’s Grill for family-friendly meals and hot cocoa, and the Flying Squirrel shop for gear and souvenirs. If you’re renting equipment or taking a lesson, park at Bear Den. Please plan to arrive at least an hour to an hour and a half before your lesson so you have time to get tickets and rentals.

On the snow, Bear Den is designed to help new skiers and riders progress at their own pace. First-timers can start on the magic carpet and practice turns around fun, oversized animal figures. When they’re ready, the Falcon Flyer chairlift takes them to gentle green trails like Flying Squirrel, Otter, and Loon. Once beginners have the basics down, The Notch lift gives them a ski-over connection to the main mountain, where more green terrain and the Main Base Lodge are waiting. Whether it’s a child’s first day on skis or an adult trying something new, Bear Den gives every learner a welcoming place to start their Whiteface story.

Directions: From Whiteface Main Entrance, cross the bridge and turn right. Follow the Bear Den Road to the Bear Den drop off zone and parking lots.
