New Year… New Lodge
LEGACY LODGE at Midstation
A legacy is something that defines us and gives us our sense of purpose.
From our early beginnings in 1938—when Herman Smith-Johannsen and members of the Lake Placid Ski Council began clearing an old logging road on Little Whiteface (what is now the Wilderness trail), establishing downhill skiing in the region, to our hosting of the alpine skiing events of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games—our history has helped shape our legacy.
Throughout the years, it has been our mission to carry on that legacy, while also continuing to look to the future, through continued modernization and improvement projects all over the mountain.
The Midstation Lodge, built in 1960, has always been a staple at Whiteface—a popular spot, where the upper mountain trails converge, to meet friends and family and warm-up with a hot chocolate, a bowl of our famous Whiteface chili, or grab a beverage to enjoy on the deck. There is nothing better than a spring day at Midstation! Sadly, Midstation burned to the ground in a fire last November, just as the season was getting underway.
The new lodge, built at close proximity to that mid-mountain location, will carry on the legacy of Midstation, but with the modern amenities that you have come to expect at a ski resort.
The new LEGACY LODGE embodies the spirit of Adirondack great camps in a 10,000 sq. ft. lodge. It’s located just below Broadway trail, offering food and beverage service, a large dining area, multiple seating spaces, full restroom amenities, and an expansive viewing deck with some of the most spectacular vistas of the High Peaks.
Legacy Lodge is open for the 2020/21 season with limited services. Phase two of this lodge project is expected to be completed in summer 2021. We can’t wait for you to join us at the Legacy Lodge this Winter! We know that it will be a place where new memories are made, while we always embrace our past.
